People usually call me Helga Jóseps, but actually my full name is Helga Ragnheiður Jósepdóttir, but as you can see, parts of it are a little bit too complicated to be using it internationally.
I was born in 1982, and raised in Eskifjörður, a small fishing village in the east of Iceland.
I am a Product Designer, BA degree from Iceland Academy of the arts & IED Madrid, + M.ed. student at in new teaching methodology UNAK. At High school I studied mechanics and sociology.
Currently I work as a Makery Manager at Space 10 in Kødbyen, Copenhagen, where we will function as a future living lab in collaboration with concept development depart of IKEA for the next couple of years. For the last two years I was working as a High school teacher in Design and Technology (Product design, FabLab etc) and as a project manager for Grasrót - Creative community.
The two previous years to that, I had the privileged of being the Manager of Boisbuchet www.boisbuchet.org - Summer Workshops in design and Architecture (in collaboration with Vitra Design Museum & centre George Pompidou), in France.
Other works I have taken care of, short or long term, during the last 20 years, have been working as a fashion and Design shop attendant at Mýrin, Workshop teacher at IED Madrid, at a mechanic workshop for fishing boats and working as a truck driver for 5 years, done office work and accountancy, worked in a fish and shrimp factory, laid down garden tiles, been the manager of teenagers summer work, renovated houses, ran international group exhibitions, hosted events and parties of all sorts all around Europe, from educational presentations at fairs to costume and pool parties home and abroad, sanded cars, painted houses, written articles and shoveled cow shit, amongst many many other interesting and useful things.
My amusements are:
Problem solving, challenging projects, party planning, creating indesign documents, giving presentations and lectures, brainstorming, technical drawings, setting up exhibitions, thinking the other way around, putting myself in other peoples shoes, diving into work, progress, relaxation, enjoying life, sun, red wine, spending time with interesting people, cooking and eating good food, taking walks and bike rides, investigating my surroundings and other people, inspecting other people´s and cultures habits, and last but not least; working with my hands.
For the last years I have been living and working in different countries, which has made me become more and more interested in different cultures and every day habits and life of people from different parts of the world. Inspecting and analysing different peoples habits, enjoyments and way of life, and then sometimes comparing that to my own background, growing up in this small fishing village of 1000 habitants on the east coast of Iceland.
From there I most often get the inspiration to my projects, from people´s habits.
Lately I am passionately interested in improving the future of life for people on the earth, by using "real" sustainable methods and materials as replacement for the ones used nowadays, as well as improving physical and mental health of people in general. Hopefully creating new habits and traditions towards better practice :)
